Individual Therapy for Trauma Survivors in California

Virtual, trauma-informed therapy for survivors of sexual violence, domestic abuse, stalking, and complex trauma.

Living with trauma changes how everything feels

After sexual violence, domestic abuse, or stalking, the world doesn't feel the same. Your body doesn't feel the same. You might question your judgment, scan every room for danger, or go numb when you need to feel most present.

Individual therapy is a place to work through this safely. At your pace. With someone who understands what trauma does to the nervous system, relationships, and sense of self.

These are normal responses to abnormal experiences

When trauma is affecting your life, it can look like:

A woman with curly dark hair sitting on a couch, holding her forehead with her hand, appearing distressed. She is wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. An older person in a tan coat is standing beside her, with their hand on her back. In the background, there are candles on a mantel and a large mirror, with a green plant nearby.

Hypervigilance or feeling constantly on edge

Difficulty trusting others or your own judgment

Anxiety, depression, or emotional numbness

Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts

Avoiding people, places, or situations that remind you of the trauma

Shame, self-blame, or confusion about what happened

Feeling disconnected from your body or emotion

Relationship strain rooted in trauma responses

What is individual trauma therapy?

A woman with dark curly hair, wearing a pink hoodie, is lying on a pink couch, smiling with her eyes closed. She is next to a large green plant and is interacting with two other people, one holding a pen and the other partially visible.

Individual therapy means working one-on-one with a licensed trauma specialist. Sessions are 50 minutes, confidential, and are offered in person in Long Beach, CA, and virtually statewide in California.

You control what you talk about and when. You won't be forced to share details you're not ready to share. You won't be pushed to "relive" traumatic events or move faster than feels safe.

Therapy is collaborative. Your provider will follow your lead, help you understand how trauma is showing up in your life now, and work with you to develop tools that actually help.

How we work with you

Healing

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you” - Maya Angelou

We specialize in the trauma most providers aren't trained to treat. We offer trauma-specific individual, relational, and communal healing practices tailored to promote whole person healing rather than applying generalist approaches.

Blooming

"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty." - Maya Angelou

We understand that even in the blooming era of healing, there still may be moments where you need additional support. This is why we offer individual drop-in maintenance sessions and continued access to all of our therapeutic offerings.

We draw from evidence-based approaches, chosen collaboratively based on your needs:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) / Somatic-based approaches / Internal Family Systems (IFS) / DBT-informed skills / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) / Psychodynamic therapy / Narrative therapy

MEET THE Team

We've built our practice around supporting survivors

Our licensed providers have dedicated their careers to supporting survivors of sexual violence, domestic abuse, stalking, and complex trauma. We're not generalists trying to do everything. This is what we do, and we do it well.

At Honey & Twine Counseling, our team is led by survivors and trained specialists who know that healing from trauma requires more than textbook knowledge. It requires lived understanding, deep compassion, and specialized expertise.

Whether you're looking for EMDR, somatic therapy, DBT, or trauma-informed expressive arts psychotherapy, our team brings evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs. We work with individuals, families, children, and adolescents across California.

You don't have to carry this alone

Individual therapy gives you a space to process what happened, understand how it's affecting you now, and build a life that feels safe. You don't have to do this by yourself.
